Available Models & Awards

When comparing the number of vehicles alone, Lexus comes out on top. They currently have about 20 models available, whereas Genesis has only two: the G80 and G90.

However, Lexus has been around since 1989. Genesis, on the other hand, separated from Hyundai and launched in the United States in 2016. They're expecting to launch another sedan, plus a coupe and a couple SUVs, in the near future. Before long, Genesis will really be able to compete with the Lexus lineup.

Despite Genesis having fewer vehicles, the two available are of very high quality. In fact, J.D. Power gives Genesis a 5 out of 5 Quality Overall rating. Unfortunately, Lexus has received only a 3 out of 5 rating.

Furthermore, both Genesis models earned a 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Meanwhile, of all the vehicles that Lexus offers, only four received a 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK rating, and none of them are a TOP SAFETY PICK+.

Owner Benefits & Warranties

Genesis and Lexus offer plenty of benefits to new car owners. For example, Lexus offers a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Lexus also offers comprehensive warranties. However, the basic warranty is for four years/50,000 miles, and the powertrain warranty is for six years/70,000 miles.

Both brands also offer complimentary scheduled maintenance to make sure that your vehicle continues running at peak performance. The standard plan for Lexus lasts for two years/20,000 miles. The standard plan for Genesis, however, lasts for three years/36,000 miles.

Lexus does offer fun things to take advantage of while waiting for your car. These include luxury waiting areas, spas services, and a golf putting green. However, they're only available in select service centers.

But Genesis has the same amenities in every dealership. You'll get multimedia and navigation updates for three years to make sure that you always have the most up-to-date maps. Plus, you'll get service valet for three years. A technician will perform a remote diagnostic check, pick up your car, and send a courtesy replacement. Then, they'll return your Genesis to you when the work is completed.

Standard Features

To get an idea of the standard features you'll find in each brand, let's look at the Genesis G80 vs. Lexus GS.

They both come standard with Bluetooth® technology to stream audio or make hands-free phone calls. They also come standard with leather-trimmed seats to complement the sophisticated-looking cabin.

Additionally, the G80 comes standard with 12-way power driver and front-passenger seats with 4-way power lumbar support. This is so you can get in that perfect seating position up front. The GS, on the other hand, comes standard with 10-way power driver and front-passengers seats.

The G80 also comes standard with a navigation system with 8-inch display. This is to help you get from point A to point B easily.

Unfortunately, to get this feature in the GS, you'll need to upgrade to a higher trim level.
